EVAULATION

Evaulation: Welcome

Evaluation
During my final major project, I felt I have been punctual, focused and was able to work very independently as an artist. I took on and considered constructive criticism from my peers throughout the whole duration of my project. At the beginning of this project, I found it hard to choose a theme that I thought was inspiring and unique but I was determined and confident when I realized it’s the work that you create that will inspire viewers also. I was confident in my work ability, so I chose a theme that inspired me. Throughout the project I had attended life drawing classes, consistently developed into my sketchbook, and took notes into my journal. I visited the library frequently to research into my subject matter and other aspects of my project e.g. (photography and film) and had frequent one to one meeting with my peers to discuss analysis and evaluate my project. Independently outside of college hours I collected primary photography and started experimenting and getting innovative with filming using premier rush and photoshop but also through local scenery and my own perspective.
I felt I have been consistent in this project in some respects, but I have faced obstacles in some areas. I found it difficult starting off using photoshop and premiere rush as I was not used to both platforms and the tools provided.  To overcome this problem, I just kept confident in the process. I improved my knowledge by researching. I watched multiple tutorials and read up on film and photography books. This process helped me develop my skills and techniques with film and photography.
What worked well in my final major project was sticking to my planner/timetable. It helped me organize and timetable my work and keep aware of upcoming deadlines. Collecting inspiration from artists and first-hand information from people diagnosed with night terrors has given me a clearer and more educated insight into to the subject matter. Nicholas Bruno’s work really helped shape my perspective of both sleep disorders and photography throughout this project. Bruno’s hidden symbols in his photography is something I have included into my own film and photography. From this I feel I have been able to capture and display more accuracy of the subject matter in my project. What worked well for me also was continuously writing down my project ideas from film, photography, sketchbook to three dimensional pieces into my research journal. This helped me keep track of my ideas, my intentions and develop them.
I have developed several new techniques in the duration of my FMP. I have further strengthened my painting ability and have started the process of finding my own style of painting. I have developed my research skills by using a wider range of sources from books, websites, and articles. I have become a lot more experimental in my work. My sketchbook ranges from a wide selection of mixed media and mediums. I feel I have shown the most progress with my digital skills and techniques throughout this project. I have developed my editing skills in both photography and film from photoshop and premiere rush. I have improved both practically and knowledge wise within the digital platforms.
My final outcomes have not changed from my project proposal in the respect of the medias I chose. However, my intentions of how I would have presented my final outcomes have. Originally, I was going to have a wall of my photography, maybe 5 pieces, along with my video installation being played through a screen of some sort and my sculpture would have been placed on a plinth. Further into my project I had different visions for the layout of my final pieces. I decided I wanted to link two of my pieces together in some way to make my exhibition more effective and increase high levels of engagement with the viewers. An aspect I would change to improve my outcome would be to alter the exhibition layout to allow a 360 walk around view of the sculpture. As the video would have been projected from the wall onto the sculpture, this prevents the 360-view happening without disturbing the projection of the video.
